Depicting the Southwest’s past from prehistory to present day, the Arizona Museum of Natural History offers a comprehensive look into the region's geology, paleontology, archaeology and anthropology in its impressive 80,000-square-foot facility. Exhibiting numerous skeletons from an such prehistoric giants as dinosaurs, mammoths and mastodons, the facility also gives visitors a chance to visit a Spanish mission, search for the Dutchman’s lost treasure and pan for gold, among other intriguing activities. Located in downtown Mesa, the museum is within walking distance of the lovely Mesa Amphitheatre, as well as numerous shops, galleries and restaurants.
